We may be the experts in auto body and windshield repair in Bonnyville, but our windshield skills end at repairing chips and cracks—or replacing an entire windshield. Keeping your windshield clean is on you though, and it’ll get harder once winter kicks in and you have snow and sleet to contend with.

You’re not always going to be able to get to a carwash, and who wants to wash their own car in -20° weather, so it’ll be helpful to know how to clean your vehicle without the hassle.

1. Shine it up with Hair Conditioner

If you have some hair conditioner that contains lanolin (which is most of them), dab some on a microfiber cloth and clean in a circular motion- you’ll be amazed by the carwash-quality shine.

2. Coke Is It (For Windshields)

Pour cola (or any fizzy drink) on your windshield and the bubbles will remove dirt- just remember to keep it away from your car’s paint and wipe it off afterwards.

3. Window Cleaner and Toothpaste

If your headlights are a little cloudy some window cleaner and pantyhose will take care of it, for stuck-on dirt use toothpaste and a toothbrush—just remember to wash it off before you put it back in the bathroom.

4. Get Rid of Streaks With Ammonia

If your wipers are leaving streaks you’ll need to clean them by pulling them away from the windshield itself and rubbing down the blades with a solution of ¼ cup of ammonia to 1 quart of cold water.

5. And Remember…

Air drying is the easiest way to get streaks and soapy deposits on your car, so always wipe the surfaces down with a microfiber cloth or chamois.
